Several times in the last month I’ve been redirected from the boards (never any other site) to a page pretending to be associated with Microsoft ( though their URL gives them away), claiming they’ve found “pornographic spyware” on my computer and urging me to call their number so their “engineers” can walk me through the process of removing this nonexistent threat. The page hijacks my browser, and it’s impossible to close the tab- I have to close Google Chrome through the task manager by pressing Ctrl Alt Delete.
The page is a close copy of the real Microsoft support page, and is clearly part of a very dangerous scam designed to scare victims into calling so they can 1: urge them to download actual malware as part of the walk-through process, enabling the “company” to steal passwords and personal information and 2: urge people to pay for unnecessary devices or services they’ll likely never receive.
Is there anything WB admins can do to block or prevent further redirects to this site? I’ve already reported it to Microsoft’s report a scam page, and I’ll link the site below
